People take me too seriously and not serious enough, all at the same time.

I think that in today’s media and in pop culture. There is an incredible amount of scrutiny around women, especially for someone like me who is in the entertainment business. It’s show bizz!

It is all just show bizz, and I think there is a tremendous amount of analysis that goes in to every thing I do, which is sort of two fold, because on the one hand, when I seed cultural statements in to things that I do, people say. “Well why are you doing that?’

and then if I don’t, then I’m am boring.

People have spoken about explicitly using the word transgendered in my song (born this way); well you know I really wanted to make a record that was un-apologetic and quite literal and to the point;

Empowering music for females, has kind of washed away over the past 20 years.

And i wanted to revive it. That is what I am doing.

I wanted to create something that was a sort of cultural or religious experience, but of course not in the traditional definition of religion.
